APRIL 2015

It had been 10 years since I had heard from Marianne, mostly because I had mis-transcribed her number, and her e-mail address had changed. I thought we had lost her.

I searched her out, called her, and we had a great talk for 45 minutes. Marianne said that she had cancer about 20 years ago, and then a completely different cancer about 5 years ago. Just as she was recovering from that, she fell off her horse and really broke her ankle. She is healthy now and loving every minute of every day.

Her husband Paul was a banker, and Marianne was also in the industry, doing IT work and business strategy. Both are retired now, but Marianne has become active in local and state politics.

Paul spent time in the Navy, and a group of his friends hold regular reunions; at the last reunion, Paul and Marianne invited everyone to Aiken for the next reunion. Fate has it that it is the same weekend as our reunion. We will miss her.

Hi Bob -

It was nice to get your note in the middle of a busy summer - hence my long delay in responding. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be on L.I. in October for the alumni gathering.

Last year, after 23 years in CA, Paul and I decided to return closer to roots and family, so moved to Aiken SC. It was not a moment to soon to help and support my mother who, still on L.I., was failing and then passed away in the spring. So Y2K has meant many trips from here to L.I., working with her, then the estate and sale of the house. Now that all that is winding down, I am looking forward to being home for a little while.

A short recap of life since FA: Paul and I have been married for 27 years, most of which we spent in the San Francisco bay area, with careers in banking and consulting. About 5 years ago, we decided it was time for a change, so retired to spend time on the things we had never had time for - community involvement, volunteer work, local politics, etc. I resumed horseback riding and now have a thoroughbred whom I train and show at lower levels in dressage. The change has been great for us, and the move to Aiken ideal. While the town is small, there are so many interesting people and activities. Everyone is so friendly and open that it is easy to become involved. And, importantly, we are much closer to Paul's family in NJ, so will be able to help more as they need us.

I hope you are well and that the October gathering goes well. And, I think your first effort as class correspondent was excellent!

Best regards,

Marianne
